That's quite enough

I'm sick, and am very much ready to be done with it. I haven't even felt like knitting. However, before the worst of it set in, I was able to go the very first knit night. Mind, it was only myself and SuperFriendCrochet (aka, the M.O.P.), but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Something about knitting in public is wonderfully fulfilling. An affirmation of the craft, perhaps. This is not my hobby, this is part of my lifestyle.

Being sick obviously makes me overly introspective. I kid you not, I have been reading poetry to take my mind off the searing pain in my throat (waaay too much coughing).

Now, on to the backlog of knitting/crochet/other pictures.

First up, something embarrassingly long overdue. A picture I took when the M.O.P. and I went to Old Town Alexandria for fibre space's Black Friday sale. The whole Black Friday shopping experience isn't typically a draw for me, but I will go out for yarn. I took this picture with my phone, and I like how it turned out, flash and all.



One of the yarns I got was some Fiberphile Super Squish Worsted in Fields of Gold. I used it to crochet (yes, you did read that right) a scarf.



My crochet skills still need some practice, but no epic failures yet, so I will charge ahead.

On the knitting side, I finished the M.O.P.'s Peaks Island Hood (with yarn she bought from, surprise, fibre space). Hopefully I will get some action shots of this soon, but until then, some pics I took with my new 50mm f/1.8 lens.







I am still getting the hang of the lens (and the camera, to be perfectly honest). Although I would prefer to be starting with the 50 mm f/1.4, it just isn't feasible price-wise.

And I think my remaining energy from the day has just fizzled out with this post. Until next time.

The New Year

I'm not much for celebrating the New Year. Or resolutions. It is easier for me to look back and see what I have accomplished. I have had my job for over a year. I moved into my own apartment. Bought some furniture. I knit a few things.

I'm still working on that unpacking thing. (Nobody's perfect.)

I can share a finished scarf, now that the recipient has it.

The last few rows were 600 stitches and took forever. I might knit this again though, I really liked the result.





Still working on these socks, but I will finish them this week.

This is old stash....one of the first skeins of sock yarn I ever bought. This feels like a bit of an accomplishment to have finally used it.

A Bit of Reflection (Photo Heavy)

Family gatherings are always interesting. This year was the first in which the family was not completely together. The why of this is disappointing and upsetting. The result was an entirely too-quiet-Christmas. I did get to see everyone, and nothing exploded like I anticipated at least. Hopefully it stays that way. Now I am just really annoyed to be trapped by snow.

All that being said, the time I did spend with the family was good. I enjoyed my gifts and I think everyone enjoyed the gifts from me. I love that smile on someone's face when they open a gift.

So I am still unpacking. I am going to make a major push to get through some boxes today. Someone recommended when I first move that I keep most of the unpacked items in a single room, so it wouldn't damage my calm. This worked, but had an unfortunate side effect--I have completely ignored that room for weeks. Whoops. I will see what I can get through today.

I made hats for all the nieces and nephews (except for the baby) for Christmas. Pattern is the Boy Hat by Elizabeth Heath-Heckman in various superwash worsted w





And since I didn't think one of the girls would wear a ribbed hat, I made her a Foliage by Emilee Mooney in Berroco Cuzco.
